Earlier this year I was approached by Southern California Underground to be the photographer for their upcoming Band Slam 2010 Contest on August 19th. SCU is a Los Angeles based company that provides up-and-coming bands the help they need to get noticed in the music industry and are currently producing their first annual “Band Slam”competition at The Music Box Theatre (a.k.a., Henry Fonda Theatre) and auditions began June 12th of this year.
The turn out was a huge success as 50+ bands from around the country showed up to audition. The auditions were held at Bed Rock Rehearsal Studios in the city of Echo Park near downtown Los Angeles. The crew at Bed Rock were extremely accommodating and made my job of shooting all of the bands run very smoothly.
Our objective for the shoot was to get the bands comfortable in front of the camera so we could get some usable promotional shots. Special thanks to Glenn “The Ring Leader” Hemanes and Jeff Druszkowski for all of their hard work while assisting me on the shoot days.
Below are some of the individual & group pictures from June 12-13th. Check back soon for the June19-20th pics!
All shots were taken with a Nikon D3 and a 24-70mm 2.8 lens. The lighting set-up I used was a Hensel Integra 500 Monolight with a 4X6 softbox. It worked flawlessly for the 4 long days we shot. A big thanks goes out to Kerry Morris and his entire crew in the rental department at Samy’s Camera in Hollywood, Ca. These guys are extremely knowledgeable, informative, and willing to offer their years of advice.
